Abstract in italiano | comprendere i principi per il fashion design non-binario |
Abstract in inglese | Fashion system as we know it has been deeply gendered, in every aspect of the industry. In fashion education, men's wear design and women's fashion designs are taught in different courses with different focuses. In fashion retail, department stores have different floor arrangements for brands based on the gender of fashion they carry. Within the same brand, there is a section for men and an section for women. Examples of gendered fashion system are countless and more case studies will be discussed in the chapters to come. But it does not have to be. In today's political climate, it is obvious that sexually segregated fashion is not going to be enough for everyone, especially for the increasing population of people who do not conform to traditional binary gender identities. The purpose of this study is to establish the fundamental principles for a non-binary fashion system, from which a non-binary fashion system can be built in terms of design, marketing and merchandising. By the end of the study, a non-binary fashion prototype will be assembled, from design proposal to the marketing campaign. |
