In the 21st century, following new governance logics at the territorial scale, the stadium takes on a particular value for the contemporary city. If previously it was considered an element of critical discontinuity within the urban fabric, it now imposes itself as a new system model, able to mend margins and revitalize neighborhoods thanks to its expression of a recognizable “imageability” (K. In the first part of the work we analyze the building-stadium from a historical point of view, observing the changes of an architecture that has gone from being exclusively infrastructure to taking on the role of superlocation. In the second, third and fourth chapters, on the other hand, the arenas that best represent the current and future global scenario are classified according to different themes, at the urban, architectural and technological level. The aim is to study how modern multifunctional stages interpret economic, social and infrastructural demands to draw design guidelines. The fifth and final part concerns the study of some iconic stadiums, global landmarks that represent an interesting meeting point between contemporary trends and historical structures.

Abstract
In the 21st century, following new governance logics at the territorial scale, the stadium takes on a particular value for the contemporary city. If previously it was considered an element of critical discontinuity within the urban fabric, it now imposes itself as a new system model, able to mend margins and revitalize neighborhoods thanks to its expression of a recognizable “imageability” (K. Lynch , 1960). The social, economic and environmental externalities of these interventions are strategic at both the urban and territorial scales. The fifth and final part concerns the study of some iconic stadiums, global landmarks that represent an interesting meeting point between contemporary trends and historical structures.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
