Ambiguous realities

The contemporaneity is undergoing a profound change that is driven by the constant and remarkable improvements of technology, by the need of a significant reduction of the environmental impacts, by the growing relevance of the digital dimension, increasingly present in people’s lives, by the general loss of faith in human beings for the achievement of a better future, and by the questioning of society influences in the determination of identities. The concept of reality is difficult to define as the limits between the physical, imagined and virtual dimensions are blurring. The current context is ambiguous, it challenges people perceptions and brings to innovative outcomes. This thesis explores the four main areas that influence the contemporary context: utopic and dystopic visions, digitality, humanism and human expressions. The analysis of its complexity allows to understand its roots and the possible future directions, to outline potential solutions for the fashion industry. The results highlight the positive and negative implications that rise from the contemporaneity as the enhancement of human lives and the loss of privacy, that bring to different possible future scenarios oriented towards utopic or dystopic visions. The ambiguous realities are the dimensions of human lives. Men are influenced by their various aspects, that sometimes can be contradictory. The classical points of reference are being lost, therefore a tangible change is forthcoming, and its goodness will depend on human choices and their ability to reestablish a contact with nature.

La contemporaneità sta subendo un profondo cambiamento guidato dai costanti e notevoli miglioramenti delle tecnologie, dalla necessità di una significativa riduzione degli impatti ambientali, dalla crescente rilevanza della dimensione digitale, sempre più presente nella vita delle persone, dalla perdita generale di fede negli esseri umani per il raggiungimento di un futuro migliore e da come la società influenza e determina l’identità delle persone. Il concetto di realtà è difficile da definire poiché i limiti tra le dimensioni fisica, immaginata e virtuale sono difficili da definire. Il contesto presente è ambiguo, interroga le percezioni delle persone e porta a risultati innovativi. Questa tesi esplora le quattro aree principali che influenzano il contesto contemporaneo: visioni utopiche e distopiche, digitalità, umanesimo e le espressioni umane. L'analisi della sua complessità consente di comprendere le sue radici e le possibili direzioni future, per delineare potenziali soluzioni per l'industria della moda. I risultati evidenziano le implicazioni positive e negative che emergono dalla contemporaneità come il miglioramento della vita umana e la perdita di privacy, che portano a diversi possibili scenari futuri orientati verso visioni utopiche o distopiche. Le realtà ambigue sono le dimensioni della vita umana. Gli uomini sono influenzati dai loro vari aspetti, che a volte possono essere contraddittori. I classici punti di riferimento si stanno perdendo, si sta verificando un cambiamento tangibile e la sua bontà dipenderà dalle scelte umane e dalla loro capacità di ristabilire un contatto con la natura.
