Improvement of industrial heritage area behind the port of Izmir, transformation of its urban environment via green continuity and solution for the isolation problem due to infrastructure

Due to its geography, İzmir has served as a natural port throughout history. today's main port is Alsancak Port and is located in the center of the city. The main problem of this region is that the infrastructure system serving the port isolates a triangle area, which has great potential in the center of the city. Ports that have been displaced throughout history, and the systems formed by the layers of history, shape the city, thus solving this existing problem is complicated. When it is examined on a large scale, it is understood that the main problem of the city is the irregularities experienced during the metropolitanization process. The metropolitan transportation system of the city creates borders in the city center. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the metropolitan and urban axes and nodes of the city, to discover the problems and potentials created in the center, and to propose a valid solution by me. While making these analyses, the history of the city should not be ignored, and the reflections of the social and physical environment on the architectural environment that they lived throughout history should be examined in order to make the sociological analysis of the city. Understanding the current socio-cultural character of the city and producing suitable spaces is the main goal. This study, carried out for the purposes mentioned above, consists of the following sections; Introduction: An overview to discover the importance and potential of the project area Chapter 1: Historical Footprints in Smyrna: The importance of the city throughout history and its role in history are examined. The transformation of the city's ports over time is emphasized. Chapter 2: Metropolitan Analysis of Izmir: While examining all the factors that the city has today, the natural and artificial environment of the city over its green, gray and blue infrastructures are analyzed. The main axes and nodes of the city are emphasized through metropolitan systems. These analyzes are carried out at different scales, examining different relationships between the city and the city center. Chapter 3: The Proposal for Behind the Port Area of Izmir: In this chapter, by focusing on the industrial heritage site located in the center of the city, behind the existing port, a proposal is made for solving the isolation problem of this region and bringing it to the city.

Capitolo 2: Analisi metropolitana di Izmir: esaminando tutti i fattori che la città ha oggi, viene analizzato l'ambiente naturale e artificiale della città sulle sue infrastrutture verdi, grigie e blu. I principali assi e nodi della città sono enfatizzati attraverso sistemi metropolitani.
