Youniqueness. Enhance the diversity

In all the historical periods, women are subjected to unattainable ideals to follow in order to reach the perfect beauty. Very often these wrong ideals deform the anatomy of the feminine body. The progressive liberation of the woman and her body, frees us from these extreme cases, but the ideal still remains in the imagination, especially in the fashion system. In the last few years it seems that there is a new topic that could change the fashion industry: Inclusiveness. Inclusiveness in terms of form, sex, handicap, race, colour, tradition and skin. So it seems to be the announcement of true freedom in the sense of being yourself as a human being on the planet, in an authentic way. In order to investigate and celebrate this complex theme, this research thesis analyses the concepts of: inclusiveness, the evolution of the classical beauty criteria, the multiculturalism, the significance of of nude colour and the relationship between body and natural elements. After the theoretical part, the thesis will move to the project through an experimentation of materials inspired by skin and an inclusive capsule collection, adjustable for any kind of body shape. The project led to the use of new design methodologies, still little explored in the fashion field. In fact, an important experimentation was carried out to create innovative materials inspired by everything that is normally considered a skin imperfection: vitiligo, moles, stretch marks, wrinkles. The experimental phase therefore focused on the design and creation of biomaterials, i.e. materials derived from natural substances that can replace canonical artificial materials such as plastic. These completely natural biomaterials have been used alone or as a complement to natural fabrics such as cotton and silk. The fabrics have been naturally dyed to create a color palette inspired by the colours of the human skin. Subsequently, a collection was designed with a minimum number of pieces that could enhance these innovative materials. It is a new idea of femininity, suitable for different physical conformations: a visual story of the potential of innovative materials inspired by skin and its diversity.

In tutti i periodi storici le donne sono sottoposte a ideali irraggiungibili da seguire per arrivare alla bellezza perfetta. Molto spesso questi ideali sbagliati deformano l'anatomia del corpo femminile. La progressiva liberazione della donna e del suo corpo, ci allontana da questi casi estremi, ma l'ideale resta ancora nell'immaginario, soprattutto nel fashion system. Negli ultimi anni sembra che ci sia un nuovo argomento che potrebbe cambiare l'industria della moda: l'inclusività. Inclusività in termini di forma, sesso, handicap, razza, colore, tradizione e pelle. Quindi sembra essere l'annuncio della vera libertà nel senso di essere te stesso come essere umano sul pianeta, in modo autentico. Per indagare e celebrare questo tema complesso, questa tesi di ricerca analizza i concetti di: inclusività, evoluzione dei criteri di bellezza classici, multiculturalismo, significato del colore nude e rapporto tra corpo ed elementi naturali. Dopo la parte teorica, la tesi passerà al progetto attraverso una sperimentazione di materiali ispirati alla pelle e una capsule collection inclusiva, adattabile ad ogni tipo di corporatura. Il progetto ha portato all'utilizzo di nuove metodologie di design, ancora poco esplorate nel campo della moda. È stata infatti effettuata un'importante sperimentazione per creare materiali innovativi ispirati a tutto ciò che normalmente viene considerato un inestetismo della pelle: vitiligine, nei, smagliature, rughe. La fase sperimentale si è quindi concentrata sulla progettazione e realizzazione di biomateriali, ovvero materiali derivati ​​da sostanze naturali. Questi biomateriali sono stati usati da soli o come complemento a tessuti naturali come cotone e seta. I tessuti sono stati tinti naturalmente per creare una tavolozza di colori ispirata ai colori della pelle umana. Successivamente è stata progettata una collezione con un numero minimo di pezzi che potessero valorizzare questi materiali innovativi. È una nuova idea di femminilità, adatta a diverse conformazioni fisiche: un racconto visivo delle potenzialità di materiali innovativi ispirati alla pelle e alla sua diversità.
