The age of Anthropocene makes it imperative that we find ways to tackle pollution and to stay within planetary boundaries limits, one of these boundaries is nutrients availability. From a planetary boundaries point of view, the flow of new reactive nitrogen should be 25% of its current value, or about 35 million tons of nitrogen per year (Planetary Boundaries: Specials, n.d.). Therefore, this work deals with the nutrients and the eutrophication issue in a nature-based solution. On the other hand, one drawback of algal biofuel generation that the process constantly requires nutrients which increase the biofuel cost production. These drawbacks can be overcome by involving microalgae-based nutrient removal from wastewaters for bioremediation of the eutrophication, and finally collecting the residuals in an anaerobic digestion plant which produce biogas exported directly to an existing gas power plant and closing the bioresources loop. El Burullus lake in Egypt is selected as a case study for being rich in nutrients and its applicability to host the integrated system.

Abstract
El Burullus lake in Egypt is selected as a case study for being rich in nutrients and its applicability to host the integrated system.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
