Una nuova soglia abitabile. Progetto di condivisione urbana per Città Studi

This dissertation was created with the intention of investigating the space relationships resulting  from the   instauration of a new system acting as a multifunctional node in the Campus of Politecnico di Milano, in Città Studi. Trough an analysis of said area and of the  Campus', some issues came up that the project tried to face. The Campus is scattered in various "sections", that convey the different identity manifested by this university, it being the active part of Città Studi and undergoing some transformations that may make this district attractive only during a limited time of the day, considering the emptying and the transformation which it's going against. The offered project stands in continuity with the Campus and the current previsions and requalifications made  by Renzo Piano, yet it wants to be an alternative to the planned project by Politecnico for the area placed at the intersection between Via Bassini and Via Ponzio, too (the laboratories of the Chimics Departments would eventually be moved in the emptied structures after the relocation of the Statale at Expo). The project wants to explore the boundaries that would be developed  through the establishment of an "open-space and constructed-space" system, organised according to road alignment, both of the present and the past, and the possible  doorsteps between them, in the attempt of making this area from the central localization looking like a knot among the "poles" of the Campus. (Ampère-Leonardo-Golgi) We have the opportunity of creating pooling places, through both the presence of a new Student House dedicated to different users and work places, and the placement of a cultural complex, such as the Museo del Politecnico, one for the leisure time, it being the sports complex, intended in relationship to  the Giurati area, accessible and enjoyable by a mixed sort of users. With this project we put as a goal to create new places of identity  and sharing of society by using a series of livable thresholds placed on different levels, open spaces and semi-open ones with different usages, which put as a background urban facts.

La tesi nasce con l'intento di indagare i rapporti spaziali risultanti dall’innesto di un nuovo sistema che si pone come nodo polifunzionale all’interno del Campus del Politecnico in Città Studi. Attraverso un’analisi di tale area e degli spazi del Campus, sono risultate delle questioni che il progetto cerca di affrontare. Il Campus si trova frammentato in diverse “porzioni”, che manifestano le diverse identità che appartengono a questa università, che è la parte attiva di Città Studi, la quale sta subendo delle trasformazioni che potrebbero rendere attrattivo tale quartiere solo in una porzione limitata della giornata, considerando gli svuotamenti e le trasformazioni a cui va in contro. Il progetto proposto si pone in continuità con il Campus e l’attuale previsione di riqualificazione di Renzo Piano, ma vuole essere anche un’alternativa al progetto previsto dal Politecnico per l’area situata all’incrocio tra via Bassini e via Ponzio (i laboratori del dipartimento di Chimica che eventualmente si potrebbero ricollocare negli edifici svuotati dopo il trasferimento della Statale in Expo). Esso vuole esplorare i rapporti che si creerebbero attraverso l'innesto di un sistema di spazi aperti e spazi costruiti, organizzati seguendo l'allineamento a direttrici viarie presenti ora e nel passato,e le possibili soglie che si creano tra di loro, nel tentativo di rendere questo spazio dalla localizzazione centrale un nodo tra i “poli” del Campus (Ampère-Leonardo-Golgi). Si ha l'opportunità di creare luoghi di aggregazione, sia attraverso la presenza di una nuova casa dello studente destinata a differenti utenze, spazi per il lavoro, sia con l’inserimento di un complesso culturale come il Museo del Politecnico e per il tempo libero, quale è il complesso sportivo pensato in rapporto all’area di Giuriati, fruibili da un’utenza ibrida. Con questo lavoro ci si è posto l’obiettivo di generare nuovi luoghi identitari e di condivisione della socialità attraverso l’utilizzo di una serie di soglie abitabili poste a diversi livelli, e spazi aperti e semi aperti a diversa vocazione, i quali si pongono come sfondo dei fatti urbani.
