Meaningful design. Framework for the integration of the semiotic methodology in the design process

Affordability of new Technology and the increasing trend of robots and IOT serves as a catalyst for introducing vast variety of objects in our daily life. From the time we wake up till we go to bed, the interaction with multiple Tech-objects becomes inevitable. This paper dives into the understanding of objects from the semiotic stance, showing the reader its practical applications in the field. A framework has been introduced and showing the possibility of integrating it into the existing design process. This method helps the designer to understand the complete picture of the object that he/she is designing. Process of actantialization is introduced with highly functional objects, Spot the robot dog and later applying the same framework for other object Aibo from Sony, to highlight the possibility of applying the framework to wide variety of objects. For designers, by understanding the semantic tensions between the value and roles between the user and the product, various aspects of the designed product can be enhanced or subdued.

L'accessibilità della nuova tecnologia e la crescente tendenza dei robot e dell'IOT funge da catalizzatore per l'introduzione di un'ampia varietà di oggetti nella nostra vita quotidiana. Dal momento in cui ci svegliamo fino a quando andiamo a letto, l'interazione con più oggetti tecnologici diventa inevitabile. Questo articolo si tuffa nella comprensione degli oggetti dalla posizione semiotica, mostrando al lettore le sue applicazioni pratiche sul campo. È stato introdotto un framework che mostra la possibilità di integrarlo nel processo di progettazione esistente. Questo metodo aiuta il progettista a comprendere il quadro completo dell'oggetto che sta progettando.
