Inner-city transformation is common in the world but the process of that transformation is different in different parts of the world for example in the European context inner city is trans-formed into a tourist center but in most of the South Asian countries inner city is transformed into an economic hub (wholesale markets). Walled city Lahore is one of the old historical cen-ters in the South Asia region. After independence, several initiatives by the government turn the walled city into a commercial hub. This commercialization force the residents of the walled city started towards the suburban areas by selling the place to the owners of commercial markets. These owners started using those spaces for different types of storage. Studies have shown that changes in land use have different physical and social effects on the walled city. Most of the area of the walled city is declining due to these changes. Due to the presence of large-scale wholesale commercial markets, there is a large influx of business tourists in the walled city. That large influx of business tourists also brings small commercial activities (street food stalls, small sleeping areas, etc.). These large and small commercial activities that overlap with resi-dential activities become a reason for the tussle between residents and tourists to conquer the area. This gives birth to conflict between residents and traders. A detailed study has been done through interviews and ethnography survey of how these conflicts have changed the physical and social life of the people of the city. The conventional tools and policies are now outdated. Now New economy has started shaping the urban fabric of cities. The walled city area can be used as an experimental place where public authorities intentionally can use the new economy as a tool to re-distribute the economy and make the livelihood and urban environment better for the people of the walled city.

Abstract
The walled city area can be used as an experimental place where public authorities intentionally can use the new economy as a tool to re-distribute the economy and make the livelihood and urban environment better for the people of the walled city.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
