Z-24+. Affordable habitat for future vertical cities. Innovative design solutions for the next generations

For years long, architecture has and continues to be defined by the language of design canons pre-established by all-consumed examples of the past. In a world that is ever presently global and more and more striking towards cloud based systems, such architecture can no longer be defined contemporary nor satisfy contemporary needs. The future will undeniably reveal changes in paradigms of architecture, urban design as well as the working environment and these shifts amount to nothing more and nothing less than the new generation of the future, Generation Z. We propose Z_24+, a flexible and cloud based tower of dwellings whose target is to reflect and satisfy the shortage of representation of Gen Z, the one generation that just like others in the past, will drastically define the new canons of architecture and living conditions. Z_24+ has all the contemporary qualities of a person born right after the 2000s, with it being global, all inclusive, digital and most importantly customizable. This new generation tower, if we dare to call it, is not a specific construction of dwelling but rather a manifesto or proposed methodology of how the process of living can be extended in the future, today not very far from our present. We as architects have to vigorously acknowledge that Gen Z no longer represents merely a generation, but more accurately a dogma of views and behaviors on how the world of the future, if not the current, will work and how we, as the rest of the generations, have to react in order to remain competitive and resilient. This thesis tries to explore the connection and complexity behind what it means to be a resident today and what kind of architecture can best depict the new culture of sharing.

Per anni l’architettura è stata definita dal linguaggio dei canoni progettuali prestabilito attraverso esempi del passato e continua ad esserlo tutt’ora. In un mondo che oggigiorno è sempre più globale e sempre più suggestivo verso i sistemi basati sul cloud, tale architettura non può più essere definita contemporanea né soddisfare le esigenze contemporanee. Il futuro rivelerà innegabilmente i cambiamenti nei paradigmi dell’architettura, del design urbano e dell’ambiente di lavoro e questi cambiamenti non sono altro che la conseguenza della presenza della nuova generazione del futuro, la Generazione Z. Proponiamo Z_24+, una torre di appartamenti flessibile, composta da “cloud”, il cui obiettivo è quello di riflettere e soddisfare la carenza di rappresentazione della Gen Z, l’unica generazione che, come le altre nel passato, definirà drasticamente i nuovi canoni dell’architettura e delle condizioni di vita. Z_24+ soddisfa tutte le qualità contemporanee di una persona nata subito dopo gli anni 2000, attraverso il suo essere globale, tutto incluso, digitale e soprattutto personalizzabile. Questa torre per la nuova generazione, se così possiamo chiamarla, non è una costruzione specifica dell’abitare ma piuttosto un manifesto o una metodologia proposta di come il processo di vita possa estendersi in futuro, oggi non molto lontano dal nostro presente. Noi come architetti dobbiamo riconoscere con forza che la Generazione Z non rappresenta più solo una generazione, ma più precisamente un dogma di opinioni e comportamenti su come il mondo del futuro, se non la corrente, funzionerà e come noi, come il resto delle generazioni, dobbiamo reagire per rimanere competitivi e resilienti. Questa tesi cerca di esplorare la connessione e la complessità dietro ciò che significa essere un residente oggi e che tipo di architettura può rappresentare al meglio la nuova cultura della condivisione.
