Tangibile intangibile. Un esperimento rigenerativo nel contesto ligure

Intangible cultural heritage: what is it and how to recognize it? How to translate it into a driving force of beneficial territorial transformations? The Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) was formally recognized by Unesco in 2003 with the Convention for the Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. This proves to be the first opportunity in history to systematize, collect and disseminate the infinite set of human cultural manifestations, raising awareness of the role they play in social and environmental sustainability and the need to take care of them. The enormous interest that this project has generated, offering the possibility to all groups of all origins and sizes to see their heritage recognized internationally, has at the same time triggered dynamics that are not always easily interpretable or aligned with the objectives of the Convention. Therefore, starting from the assumption that undertaking an application process is neither a simple nor a neutral operation, the thesis starts from the idea that this same process can be recognized as having the ability to "create community" and become a driving force for an effective territorial regeneration. After the initial reflections on the meanings that terms such as culture, identity and community have today, a selection of intangible practices inscribed in the List of Intangible Heritage will be presented: this overview, in addition to offering a spectrum of human diversity and creativity, will always contribute to making it is more evident how the concept of "immateriality" is not intrinsically defined and determined by the set of its more strictly "material" components. Recognizing, therefore, how much these two terms represent two sides of the same coin, and how much what concerns the inhabitant even more concerns the town, has led us to recognize in this issue a strong disciplinary value. Taking into consideration the Ligurian province of Savona, the cultivation and processing of Chinotto di Savona was identified as a lucky case of a living cultural element adhering to the requirements defined by UNESCO for recognition as intangible. From here, a tool was imagined capable of coherently inserting itself within existing local projects and translating a social and environmental regeneration project starring the famous citrus fruit into spatial and supra-spatial actions.

Patrimonio culturale intangibile: cos’è e come riconoscerlo? Come tradurlo in motore di benefiche trasformazioni territoriali? L’Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) viene formalmente riconosciuto dall’Unesco nel 2003 con la Convenzione per la Salvaguardia del patrimonio culturale immateriale. Questa si rivela la prima occasione nella storia per mettere a sistema, raccogliere e diffondere l’insieme infinito delle manifestazioni culturali umane, sensibilizzando sul ruolo che rivestono riguardo la sostenibilità sociale ed ambientale e sulla necessità di prendersi loro cura. L’enorme interesse che questo progetto ha generato, offrendo la possibilità a tutti i gruppi di tutte le provenienze e dimensioni di vedere riconosciuto internazionalmente il proprio patrimonio, ha allo stesso tempo innescato però delle dinamiche non sempre facilmente interpretabili o allineate con gli obiettivi della Convenzione. Partendo dunque dal presupposto che l’intrapresa di un processo di candidatura non sia un’operazione né semplice né neutra, la tesi muove dall’idea che a questo stesso processo possa essere riconosciuta la capacità di “fare comunità” e divenire volano per un’effettiva rigenerazione territoriale. Dopo le riflessioni iniziali sui significati che hanno oggi termini quali cultura, identità e comunità, verrà presentata una selezione di pratiche intangibili inscritte nella Lista del Patrimonio Immateriale: questa panoramica, oltre ad offrire uno spettro della diversità e della creatività umana, concorrerà a rendere sempre più evidente quanto il concetto di “immaterialità” non sia invece intrinsecamente definito e determinato dall’insieme delle sue componenti più strettamente “materiali”. Il riconoscere, dunque, quanto questi due termini rappresentino due facce della stessa medaglia, e quanto ciò che riguarda l’abitante ancor più riguarda l’abitato, ci ha portato a riconoscere in questa tematica un forte valore disciplinare. Prendendo in esame la provincia ligure di Savona, si è individuato nella coltivazione e lavorazione del Chinotto di Savona un caso fortunato di elemento culturale vivente ed aderente ai requisiti definiti dall’Unesco per il riconoscimento ad intangibile. Da qui, è stato immaginato uno strumento capace di inserirsi coerentemente all’interno dei progetti del territorio già vigenti e di tradurre in azioni spaziali e sovra spaziali un progetto di rigenerazione sociale ed ambientale avente come protagonista il celebre agrume.
