Automatic transfer switch systems are employed in a wide range of applications in order to improve continuity of service. In low voltage, modern circuit breakers fitted with electronic protection unit, and with communication interface, are able to realize an automatic transfer logic without the use of any centralized control unit. This thesis presents an automatic transfer switch system between two power lines, totally implemented by a distributed logic shared by the protection units installed on the three circuit breakers composing the system: two incoming line protections and a bus tie. The logic is based on signal exchanges among the breakers; signals convey information about the status of each device, and about the state of voltage in each part of the system. Signalling is based on GOOSE messages, compliant with IEC 61850 standard. The proposed system has been validated by Hardware In the Loop testing. In this technology, a real time simulator reproduces the behavior of the power system, stimulates the units under test by applying synthetic current and voltage signals at their inputs, and checks their proper reaction. This allows collective behavior to be tested, as required in distributed logic applications.

Abstract
This allows collective behavior to be tested, as required in distributed logic applications.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
