We are becoming more and more aware that the apparently unchangeable environment in which we live is in fact constantly in motion, at first slow and imperceptible while now rapid and visible. Cities, forests, and continents are moving their residence southwards and with them their inhabitants. This rapid transition has led us to look beyond the immediate and anticipated effects of such movement, including the increasing temperatures, prolonged drought periods and the recurrence of extreme climatic phenomena. Simultaneously, today we see the result of a progressive abandonment of cultivable lands that took place over 70 years ago and began with the two World Wars, heightened by the advanced technology of agricultural machinery. This has shifted the agricultural practice - which has become intensive - almost exclusively in the plains and has allowed the forests to return to hills and unfertile lands. Together with the woods, also the cities have conquered these lands until they reached the limits of the vegetated areas - often surrounding them – usually developing a positive coexistence which, together with the rapid movement southwards, hides a future threat due to human negligence: wildfires. This thesis therefore wants to give some tools to prepare these domestic woods to mitigate a probable sooty future, and at the same time bring the current coexistence to a state of symbiotic equilibrium.
Stiamo acquisendo sempre di più la consapevolezza che l’ambiente apparentemente immutabile all’interno del quale viviamo è in realtà continuamente in movimento, dapprima lento ed impercettibile mentre ora è sempre più rapido e visibile. Città, boschi e continenti stanno spostando la loro residenza verso sud e con essi i suoi abitanti. Questa rapida transizione ci ha portati a guardare sempre più in là dell’immediato potendo prevedere alcuni degli effetti di questo trasloco tra cui l’aumento delle temperature, il prolungamento dei periodi di siccità e la ricorrenza di fenomeni climatici estremi. Al contempo vediamo oggi il risultato del progressivo abbandono delle coltivazioni avvenuto nell’arco di 70 anni ed iniziato con le due Guerre Mondiali, accentuato dall’avanzata tecnologica di macchinari agricoli. Questo ha spostato la pratica agricola, divenuta intensiva, quasi esclusivamente nelle pianure ed ha permesso il ritorno dei boschi su rilievi e terreni non più fertili. Assieme ai boschi anche le città hanno conquistato queste terre sino ad arrivare al limitare dei primi, spesso circondandoli, sviluppando il più delle volte una positiva convivenza che, unita al rapido spostamento verso sud, nasconde però un futuro pericolo dovuto principalmente alla negligenza umana: gli incendi boschivi. Questa tesi vuole dunque dare alcuni strumenti per poter preparare questi boschi domestici a mitigare un probabile futuro fuligginoso ed al contempo portare l’attuale convivenza ad uno stato di equilibrio simbiotico.
