In the last few years, we have often heard of some realities created where the city meets the sea. These places are along large and small coastal cities, where mosaics of different cultures have met, from ancient times till today. Architecture plays a role of great responsibility as the most effective instrument of expression to enhance this interconnection of themes, which, as a whole, define city to which they belong. Malaga, with its port, has a rich historical-cultural identity, in which two complementary images of antiquity and modernity coexist. My thesis purpose is to provide a concrete opportunity for revitalization and enhancement of an area located in the port of Malaga. This area, rich in history and values, needs for recovery, transformation and revitalization because it is now in a state of neglect. The waterfront represents the salient point to the city’s revival and rebirth, which has the sea as its starting point. My project’s subject is a building in the port of Malaga, located in a strategic area for the city. This building, Casa de Botes, trying to enhance the historical and cultural tradition of Malaga, becomes a Balneario. In ny thesis I tries to convert it into a landmark building for the city, continuing the regeneration of Malaga. Malaga is having a great regeneration process so much that it is an example for many maritime cities hat still live in the same conditions that Malaga had twenty years ago.

Abstract
In the last few years, we have often heard of some realities created where the city meets the sea. These places are along large and small coastal cities, where mosaics of different cultures have met, from ancient times till today. Symbols and values, related to the historical background of cities, are associated to these realities, that represent at the same time separation, communication and integration between port and city. Which role does the architecture have in front of this scenario, so complex and delicate, where the sea line meets the city? Architecture plays a role of great responsibility as the most effective instrument of expression to enhance this interconnection of themes, which, as a whole, define city to which they belong. Malaga, with its port, has a rich historical-cultural identity, in which two complementary images of antiquity and modernity coexist. Nowadays the techniques of reuse, grafting, subtraction must have at their base a solid 'Project of knowledge', which allows to understand the city and buildings’ history and to correctly interpret their phases of life. Malaga is having a great regeneration process so much that it is an example for many maritime cities hat still live in the same conditions that Malaga had twenty years ago.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
