Ageing population, also known as demographic ageing, is when there is a shift in the age distribution towards older ages. Demographic ageing is increasing rapidly in developed countries, especially in Europe, where in 2015 almost 23.2% of the European population was above 60 years old (UNDESA, 2015). Furthermore, ageing is seen as one of the biggest challenges that many developed countries are facing, both socially and economically. “The change is extreme, especially in countries such as Spain, Portugal, Italy and Germany, where the most aged cities are located” (ARUP, 2015, p6). This change is affecting the living spaces of human being and the whole built environment since people of age require specific changes and requirements to use spaces without being exposed to any difficulties or danger (Yu Sun, 2015). Therefore, shaping age-friendly spaces and more specifically shaping age-friendly houses is very crucial to provide a safe and healthy life for people of age. The research will demonstrate different social needs towards architecture and landscape design and the current global and local issues relating to that. Furthermore, the study is aiming to analyze and project adequate practices for building better houses, spaces and neighbourhoods emphasizing the social needs of all generations and especially in current times that made the life of all people harder particularly for elderly people living alone. Moreover, the project is crucial to demonstrate the practice of designing an attractive, safe, more inclusive and more permeable environment for all.

Abstract
Moreover, the project is crucial to demonstrate the practice of designing an attractive, safe, more inclusive and more permeable environment for all.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
