Supply chain finance relationship management

Purpose, Originality and Value – The research wants to investigate the relationships implemented by the main actors involved in different Supply Chain Finance solutions. This is an explorative research, because the literature does not provide clear information about how the main actors relate each other and the way in which the relationships are formalised. The research provided a framework, adaptable to the different solutions, in order to compare actors and relationships. Design, Methodology and Approach – The research adopts the explorative case study methodology. Starting from the actors generally involved in a Supply Chain Finance solution, a new model has been created. 10 providers of Supply Chain Finance solutions have been interviewed about the investigated solutions. Results – The first result is the definition of the actors and the relationships that can be implemented in a Supply Chain Finance solution. Moreover, it is possible to know which are the contracts that usually formalise the implemented relationships. The third result is related to the flexibility of the different instruments about the implementation and dismantling phases. Lastly, it is possible to know the main relationship – based criticalities of the solutions. Managerial Implications – The managers have a tool for comparing the different solutions that have been studied. Moreover, it is possible to accurately choose the actors which to implement an SCF program with, the contract typologies and the influence that the SCF contracts have on the others already in place. The managers will be also able to compare the timings and the main conditions for the implementation and the dismantling of the solutions. Limitations and Future Research – One main limitation of this research is that few solutions and few interviewees have been investigated and future research can involve many others. Moreover, the framework can be improved, adding new information.

Scopo, Originalità e Valore – La ricerca è volta alla comprensione delle relazioni che vengono formate dai principali attori coinvolti in una soluzione di Supply Chain Finance. Questa è una tesi esplorativa, in quanto nella letteratura non fornisce chiare informazioni su come i principali attori si relazionano tra di loro, né come le relazioni vengono formalizzate. La ricerca vuole fornire un framework, che si adatti alle diverse soluzioni, al fine paragonare attori e relazioni. Design, Metodologia e Approccio – La tesi adotta una metodologia di caso studio esplorativo. Partendo dagli attori generalmente partecipanti alle soluzioni di Supply Chain Finance, è stato creato un modello. Sulla base di questo framework, sono stati intervistati 10 fornitori di soluzioni di Supply Chain Finance. Risultati – Il primo risultato è relativo alla definizione di attori e relazioni che possono essere implementate in una soluzione di Supply Chain Finance. Inoltre è stato possibile capire quali sono i contratti che generalmente formalizzano le relazioni implementate. Il terzo risultato è legato alla flessibilità dei diversi strumenti, relativa alle fasi di implementazione e smantellamento. Infine, è stato possibile apprendere le principali criticità legate alle relazioni. Implicazioni manageriali – I manager avranno uno strumento di comparazione delle diverse soluzioni che sono state studiate. Inoltre, sarà possibile scegliere con cura gli attori con cui implementare un programma di Supply Chain Finance, le tipologie di contratto e le influenze che i contratti di SCF hanno sugli altri contratti già formalizzati. I manager saranno anche in grado di confrontare i tempi e le principali condizioni di implementazione e smantellamento delle soluzioni.
