The degradation of the environment and society is a topic that has become popular in most recent discussions. As these problems are growing at a high rate and threaten society's wellbeing, interventions and changes towards a sustainable future are more and more urgent. Academics attribute the growth of these problems to the way our environment has been designed and to the lack of a broader perspective (e.g., Shapira, 2015). For this reason, the following literature review aims to bring a more systemic perspective by expanding the boundaries when developing design innovations. A well-known method that has been beneficial in the development of design innovations is the Design Thinking approach. Hence, it is worth analyzing this approach through the lenses of sustainability. More specifically, the purpose of this paper is to understand how the Design Thinking approach and its practices can contribute to the production of sustainable innovations for the broader ecosystem. The opportunities or shortcomings of the Design Thinking practices when developing innovative solutions that balance the environment, society, and economic aspects will be identified. Based on those insights, some adjustments and recommendations that might be advantageous for a sustainable future will be presented.

Abstract
Based on those insights, some adjustments and recommendations that might be advantageous for a sustainable future will be presented.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
