COVID-19 : spatial crisis. Identification of post-COVID requirements and space design responses to the new normal

COVID-19 is a spatial crisis! The dilemma of the pandemic has highly led us to the new consciousness and responsiveness of spatial design disciplines. The pandemic has been a sudden shock in all aspects of our life, including the ways we inhabit and move through space. It has accelerated some changes we had been predicting and forced us to adopt new ways of working and living more quickly. Therefore, all of these generated the opportunity to reset and reshape or even recreate spaces based on the newly and swiftly developed desires. This thesis is going to study and identify the post-COVID needs and requirements, according to different research and surveys conducted during last year to find the space design responses to the needs of the new normality after pandemic. More specifically this study has a close look at the living space, homes and coliving spaces, and the computer-based offices and the coworking spaces, to identify the changes we have to expect in the future.

COVID-19 è una crisi spaziale! Il dilemma della pandemia ci ha portato altamente alla nuova consapevolezza e reattività sulle discipline del design spaziale. La pandemia è stata uno shock improvviso in tutti gli aspetti della nostra vita, compresi i modi in cui viviamo e ci muoviamo nello spazio. Ha accelerato alcuni cambiamenti che stavamo prevedendo e ci ha costretti ad adottare nuovi modi di lavorare e vivere più rapidamente. Pertanto, tutto ciò ha generato l'opportunità di reimpostare e rimodellare o addirittura ricreare spazi basati sui desideri appena e rapidamente sviluppati. Questa tesi studierà e identificherà i bisogni e le esigenze post-COVID, secondo diverse ricerche e indagini condotte durante lo scorso anno per trovare le risposte del design dello spazio ai bisogni della nuova normalità dopo la pandemia. Più specificamente, questo studio esamina da vicino lo spazio abitativo, le case e gli spazi collettivi, gli uffici basati su computer e gli spazi di coworking, per identificare i cambiamenti che dobbiamo aspettarci in futuro.
