The problem of the abandonment of historical buildings is a relevant issue in our cities as these, which usually occupy a central space in the urban context, are distinguished first of all by their historical importance, as well as by their intrinsic beauty. Through reuse projects, they are given a new function within the system and, brought back to life, they acquire a new role for the community. This master degree thesis focuses on a project of "riadaptive use", more precisely on the case of the Fort of Villiers, a military fortress of the late nineteenth century on the border with the Parisian region. The problem of dismantling and abandoning military structures is widespread throughout the old continent, making the search for possible solutions supranational. In the strong fields of the entrenched fields of the late nineteenth century, as in the case in question in this work, the constraints and potential of the spaces of a largely underground structure give countless possibilities for the development of reuse solutions. Taking a cue from the needs of local administrations, which see in these closed structures an element of disjunction, and considering the potential offered by the prediction of the Paris Olympic Games, a project is developed that does not betray the original philosophy of the fort but which, while remaining in a certain sense impermeable to “civil” use, assumes an important role on a regional scale. The function chosen, the result of studying the needs of a changing city and the immediate surroundings of the fort, is that of a research and development center for specific structures for Paralympic athletes, then flanked by the surrounding services. The challenge was to work mainly on the interiors, trying to keep the external envelope as intact as possible, practicing very risky demolitions and inserting new buildings with little impact on the existing structure. The line of thought adopted at the base aims to preserve the military concepts of a mimetic architecture, with additions inspired by the actualizations in the field and conforming to modern technological advances, while clearly neglecting the defensive function. The aim of the project is to transform this building from an enclosed space inaccessible to citizens into a semi-permeable place, indeed a welcoming and meeting place for athletes, but also for doctors, researchers and technicians. It was possible to pursue this goal through various urban planning, design and functional strategies, giving the city an answer to contemporary needs and requirements and converting the fort from a place of shelter to a point of reference and use for the community.

Abstract
It was possible to pursue this goal through various urban planning, design and functional strategies, giving the city an answer to contemporary needs and requirements and converting the fort from a place of shelter to a point of reference and use for the community.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
