The Villa Torelli Mylius, which was originally constructed in the early eighteenth century, is an important architectural and historical site which has experienced significant deterioration in recent decades. The sprawling park surrounding the Villa has always attracted citizens from the City of Varese for sport or relaxation purposes and continues to do so today, making it a place of social and communal gathering. This thesis focuses on restoring the site in order to maintain the historical elements of the past, while simultaneously adapting the usage of the building to become more in touch with its surroundings and today’s modern society. The objective of the redevelopment is the implementation of a state-of-the-art culinary academy inside the Villa itself, while at the same time promoting a healthy lifestyle to the public with a focus on fresh, locally grown foods, athletics and a close connection to nature. This is achieved through a deep historical analysis of the property, gaining an understanding of the function and needs of today’s culinary industry, and finally by utilizing advanced architectural and engineering techniques to retrofit the structure while ensuring minimal intervention and change to the original history that it represents. All of this incorporates many different types of uses in the Villa and park, while ensuring they are all successfully integrated into a cohesive and functioning design. The result is a high-end academic institution which celebrates the traditional cuisine and products of the Lombardy region, while encouraging healthy, active and cooperative lifestyles to the nearby inhabitants. This redevelopment initiative will inject new life into the decaying area, and improve the quality of life of its users while helping to preserve the culture and beauty of the past.

Abstract
This redevelopment initiative will inject new life into the decaying area, and improve the quality of life of its users while helping to preserve the culture and beauty of the past.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
