The thesis examines the role of the public realm to infill the fragmented fabric existing in our urban cities today. The public realm has transformed with evolution of the society. In today’s plural society, characterized by being variegated and diverse, the public realm demands inclusiveness and flexibility to become the common for an integrated urban fabric. Identifying Milan with potential signs of multicultural plurality, it is clearly evident that the city has major plans underway to accommodate its growing demographics, associated services and the changing scale of the city. The transformation projects identified and planned, aim to provide the adequate facelift. Ex Scalo Farini is an area that falls under the transformation urbis of the city. Currently an urban void,; the brownfield has an immense potential of contributing to the aspirational vision of the city. With the presence of a railway to its south, it is separated from the city but it is simultaneously surrounded by a strong network of mobility and cultural infrastructure (existing and future) which act as flux generators. With the idea of generating a peoples’ space through public space(s), the thesis investigates the role of the public realm to integrate the context in and around the site to exemplify continuity with the living city and its potential plurality. The architectural symbolism is investigated under part of the urban proposal, that of an integrated urban artifact invoking a debate of social sustainability and multicultural pluralism for the city. The thesis seeks to achieve an urban continuum as a common to conjoin the urban void, the fragment back to the urban fabric and network urban continuity in the city and aspiration of Milan.

La tesi esamina il ruolo del regno pubblico per riempire il tessuto frammentato esistente nelle nostre città urbane oggi. Il regno pubblico si è trasformato con l'evoluzione della società. Nella società plurale di oggi, caratterizzata dall'essere variegata e diversificata, il regno pubblico richiede inclusività e flessibilità per diventare il comune di un tessuto urbano integrato. Identificando Milano con potenziali segni di pluralità multiculturale, è chiaramente evidente che la città ha in corso importanti piani per accogliere la sua crescente demografia, i servizi associati e la scala in evoluzione della città. I progetti di trasformazione individuati e pianificati, mirano a fornire il restyling adeguato. L'ex Scalo Farini è un'area che rientra nella trasformazione urbis della città. Attualmente un vuoto urbano ,; il brownfield ha un immenso potenziale di contribuire alla visione aspirazionale di la città. Con la presenza di una ferrovia a sud, è separata dalla città ma è contemporaneamente circondata da una forte rete di mobilità e infrastrutture culturali (esistenti e future) che fungono da generatori di flusso. Con l'idea di generare uno spazio delle persone attraverso uno o più spazi pubblici, la tesi indaga il ruolo della sfera pubblica per integrare il contesto dentro e intorno al sito per esemplificare la continuità con la città vivente e la sua potenziale pluralità. Il simbolismo architettonico è indagato nell'ambito della proposta urbana, quella di un manufatto urbano integrato che invoca un dibattito sulla sostenibilità sociale e sul pluralismo multiculturale per la città. La tesi cerca di realizzare un continuum urbano come un comune per congiungere il vuoto urbano, il frammento di ritorno al tessuto urbano e la continuità urbana della rete nella città e l'aspirazione di Milano.
