The use of figurative language is constantly expanding in the context of contemporary digital publishing. It is therefore essential to investigate the meaning and the ways in which the illustration interprets and accompanies a pre-existing text, so that the iconic codes that constitute it can be a functional and reflective device for the reader once assembled in the editorial iconotext. The goal is therefore to analyze and re-discuss the theories and dynamics of iconic representation into the digital context, distorted by a visual overcrowding and a compulsive and superficial use. Through the analysis of a main case study, the digital edition of the New York Times, the intent of the research is to obtain a broad catalog of the different expressive solutions with which an illustration can support a verbal content, evaluating especially the new experiential possibilities introduced by digital.

Abstract
The use of figurative language is constantly expanding in the context of contemporary digital publishing. It is therefore essential to investigate the meaning and the ways in which the illustration interprets and accompanies a pre-existing text, so that the iconic codes that constitute it can be a functional and reflective device for the reader once assembled in the editorial iconotext. The goal is therefore to analyze and re-discuss the theories and dynamics of iconic representation into the digital context, distorted by a visual overcrowding and a compulsive and superficial use. Through the analysis of a main case study, the digital edition of the New York Times, the intent of the research is to obtain a broad catalog of the different expressive solutions with which an illustration can support a verbal content, evaluating especially the new experiential possibilities introduced by digital.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
