Empire on the borders. A study for the protection and the enhancement of fragile structures on the Danubian Limes in Serbia

The research would like to investigate the potentials of a valorisation activity taken place on those areas of the Balkan region that, historically, corresponded to the Danubian Limes, with particular attention to the Serbian country. Serbia is fully involved in a European strategy to enlarge the boundaries of Europe. And this is a crucial moment to understand how the relation between the recent and complex history of the Balkan region could enter in a dialogue with the complex historical layers of those places. The valorization activity on Cultural Heritage (CH) has to guarantee the correct transfer of knowledge, with the correct identification of the specific identities of places. From a methodological point of view, this research aims to highlight the importance of an in-depth knowledge of the cultural and historical background on which it is based. Approaching a foreign reality requires a careful analysis of the conditions that arise as a context. Only starting from this premise is it possible to identify a fruitful dialogue framework, where the Italian methodology, a milestone in the field of conservation and enhancement of Cultural Heritage, can be a fruitful support for the growing Serbian needs.

La ricerca intende indagare le potenzialità di un'attività di valorizzazione svolta su quelle aree della regione balcanica che, storicamente, corrispondono al Limes Danubiano, con particolare attenzione alla Serbia. La Serbia è pienamente coinvolta in un processo strategico di annessione all'Europa. E questo è un momento cruciale per capire come il rapporto tra la storia recente e complessa della regione balcanica possa entrare in dialogo con le complesse stratificazioni storiche di questi luoghi. L'attività di valorizzazione dei Beni Culturali deve coincidere con una corretta trasmissione delle conoscenze, garantita da una sistematica individuazione delle identità specifiche dei luoghi. Dal punto di vista metodologico, questa ricerca si propone di evidenziare l'importanza di una conoscenza approfondita del contesto culturale e storico su cui si fonda. Avvicinarsi a una realtà straniera richiede un'attenta analisi delle condizioni che si presentano come contesto. Solo partendo da questa premessa è possibile individuare un fecondo terreno di dialogo, dove la metodologia italiana, pietra miliare nel campo della conservazione e valorizzazione del Patrimonio Culturale, possa essere un proficuo supporto alle crescenti esigenze serbe.
