Elephant in the room

‘Elephant in the room' is a metaphorical idiom that describes the phenomena of ignoring an obvious fact in order to avoid an uncomfortable situation. In the presented case, it refers to the 20 year long fascist period in Italian history between 1918 and 1945. This thesis approaches the widely avoided subject in two ways: through an atlas of images illustrating the fascist reality and through a design proposal for a documentation centre displaying the history of fascism in Milan, the place where the political movement started.

"Elefante nella stanza" è un'espressione idiomatica che descrive il fenomeno di ignorare un fatto ovvio per evitare una situazione scomoda. Nel caso presentato, si riferisce al periodo fascista ventennale nella storia italiana tra il 1918 e il 1945. Questa tesi affronta l'argomento ampiamente evitato in due modi: attraverso un atlante di immagini che illustrano la realtà fascista e attraverso una proposta progettuale di un centro di documentazione sulla la storia del fascismo a Milano, luogo in cui è nato il movimento politico.
