Open heart surgeries require deairing of the heart chambers to prevent embolization. CO2 catheters are being used to provide carbon dioxide at the point of insertion. To study the flow from catheters, it is necessary to design an appropriate setup. This study describes the procedure from obtaining CT scans, transforming them into 3D models and 3D printing them, to designing and building a rotocaster and creating a silicone mold from these models using this rotational caster. Different grades of silicone will be tested along with varying other factors that play a role in the final result. At the end, the advantages and disadvantages of each factor will be listed, and recommendations will be made to determine the best setup for creating artificial silicone hearts that are suitable for experimentation.

Abstract
Open heart surgeries require deairing of the heart chambers to prevent embolization. CO2 catheters are being used to provide carbon dioxide at the point of insertion. To study the flow from catheters, it is necessary to design an appropriate setup. This study describes the procedure from obtaining CT scans, transforming them into 3D models and 3D printing them, to designing and building a rotocaster and creating a silicone mold from these models using this rotational caster. Different grades of silicone will be tested along with varying other factors that play a role in the final result. At the end, the advantages and disadvantages of each factor will be listed, and recommendations will be made to determine the best setup for creating artificial silicone hearts that are suitable for experimentation.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
