Abstract
The world of work is undergoing a deep transformation determined by a paradigm shift that sees the fusion of non-standard forms of work and the digital world, giving rise to the so-called Gig Economy. This disruptive change has irreversibly altered the organizational dynamics between workers and employers, triggering several interrogatives, researches and debates around the shift job conditions are subject to due to the application of new information technologies to organizational design. In this unique context, the processes by which organizations can support gig-workers’ are under-theorized, although the available literature concerning Gig Economy features and characteristics is growing and evolving at a consistent pace. For this reason, an exploratory approach has been chosen to carry out the research, and real-world evidences investigation has seemed to be the most suitable methodology. By applying an analysis framework to data collected from selected sources, insights have been discovered, filling some literature gaps around the approach and solutions a platform should adopt to support workers, expanding what has already been reported by academics. In particular, some key platform features have been found to improve the Quality of Work. It has been possible then to find some managerial implications concerning different areas of interest: the proper corporate culture needed to guarantee workers’ satisfaction; how to build the right competences to implement effective solutions; how to manage the interaction with workers. Obviously, the vastness of the theme and the type of methodology leave plenty of room for future analysis, such as extending the research to many other geographical regions or deepening the sub-theme of a labor platforms international regulation.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
