This work is the result of the internship served in the research and development department of Braking, an Italian company that operates in the production of discs and braking systems for mass-produced and racing motorcycles. The introduction to the company has been favored by my participation as an active member of the Chassis and Dynamics department in the Polimi Motorcycle Factory (PMF), the team of Politecnico di Milano involved in the creation of prototype motorbikes competing in the Motostudent International Competition. Since 2016 Braking and PMF have been collaborating together in the study and realization of the brake discs that are mounted on the racing prototypes. In this study is illustrated the optimization process of a new disc for the PMF prototype motorcycle. This process consists in the creation of a model aimed at simplifying the satisfaction of the requests imposed by the designer while respecting the initial design constraints. The objective is to focus the design, from its initial stages, to achieve an optimal result for each aspect progressively investigated, until the final configuration is obtained. The first step is the definition of the parametric design of a generic brake disc on which a preliminary analysis is carried out, in order to define a basic configuration related to the specific application. Once the starting geometry is defined, the model processes the parameters of interest to find the ideal combination that satisfies, within a certain range of variation, the design requirements. The aim is to integrate in the model the thermo-structural analysis, in order to support the optimization process, and not just to test a trial and error process.

Abstract
The aim is to integrate in the model the thermo-structural analysis, in order to support the optimization process, and not just to test a trial and error process.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
