The aim of the thesis is to analyze the phenomenon of internet memes as a new mode of participation in political debate. Through social media networks, the Communication Design culture becomes a privileged interpreter in reading memes that become carriers of previously unheard ideological interpretations and that significantly influence political action. Memes allow citizens-voters to express their dissent, to gather in opposition movements and to coordinate protests and social actions. At the same time, political parties and leaders often use memes for propaganda purposes, aiming to appeal to the fears and irrational instincts of the population and persuade the electorate.
La tesi ha come obiettivo l’analisi del fenomeno degli internet memes in quanto nuova modalità di partecipazione al dibattito politico. La cultura del progetto di Comunicazione diventa un interprete privilegiato nel leggere, attraverso i social network, i memes che si fanno portatori di interpretazioni ideologiche prima inascoltate che influenzano notevolmente l’agire della politica, permettendo ai cittadini-elettori di esprimere il loro dissenso, di dare vita a movimenti di contestazione e di coordinare proteste e azioni sociali. Parallelamente, partiti e candidati politici sfruttano sempre più spesso i memes con fini propagandistici per parlare alla pancia e ai malumori della gente e persuadere l’elettorato.
