“The villa between past and present” is a study on the architectural theme of the valorization and functionalization of a place preserving the strong historical and cultural characteristics that distinguish it while addressing the potentials of the present. Thanks to a first analysis carried out on the Valpolicella territory, all the elements characterizing the area are deduced, allowing the creation of a network containing historical, geomorphological, landscape and infrastructural informations; it provides the restitution of a precise picture of the area in which the tradition of wine production is inextricably linked with history, taking us back to the ancient Romans, and determines its evolution over time. After having analyzed and understood what the region of Valpolicella represents and in what ways it has developed, the study continues by focusing on one of its urban centers: Negrar di Valpolicella; a focus is elaborated on it which gives us the image of a settlement rich in culture and history but which, despite this, is not valued for its peculiarities. From the previous territorial and urban analysis we come to analyze in architectural scale the “Villa romana di Negrar”, archaeological site recently brought to light, clear demonstration of the far history of Negrar. The Villa is located in a landscape context of extraordinary beauty and, even after centuries, it maintains a strong relationship with the use of the surrounding land as if to emphasize how its function is closely linked to that place such that it has never changed over time. The cognitive phase of the place clearly leads to delineate a design strategy that is articulated both at a urban-territorial scale and at an architectural scale: the main purposes are the connection of the site to the existing system of paths, thus creating an educational network of the territory to give value to its architectural and landscape heritage, and the protection and the enhancement of the Villa di Negrar through the design of an archaeological park aimed at preserving the deep relationship between the villa and the territory that hosts it, showing through a slow descent into the ground the stratification of the different eras.

Abstract
The cognitive phase of the place clearly leads to delineate a design strategy that is articulated both at a urban-territorial scale and at an architectural scale: the main purposes are the connection of the site to the existing system of paths, thus creating an educational network of the territory to give value to its architectural and landscape heritage, and the protection and the enhancement of the Villa di Negrar through the design of an archaeological park aimed at preserving the deep relationship between the villa and the territory that hosts it, showing through a slow descent into the ground the stratification of the different eras.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
