Porta Romana is one of the abandoned railway parks in Milan. Many of these railway parks still retain the shape at that time and become an important part of transforming the city. Porta Romana is located in a special position. In terms of transportation, it is located at the junction of the important urban traffic loop and the radial road via Corso Lodi. In terms of urban fabrics, it is on the dividing line of two different urban fabrics, regular urban fabric in the north and fragmented agricultural landscape fabric in the south. By using the concepts of Void, Limit and Trace, we first read the site information, analyze and understand how the site as an empty void currently exists in the city, how the existed limit divides the urban fabric, as well as the trace in the site: the historical road and hydrology. And we rewrite the site strategy on the basis of context interpretation. The 2026 Winter Olympic Games will be held in Milan. Porta Romana has become a good area to provide landscape and athletes’ accommodation for the Winter Olympic Games. After the Winter Olympic Games, it will be used as a student housing area to provide more accommodation possibilities for students study in Milan and provide them with more public facilities. Therefore, according to the requirements for the development of the site, we focus on how to design the site into an urban landscape, then design it into an area suitable for the Winter Olympic Games in 2026, and then transform it to a student housing area. Therefore, based on Milan's urban memory, we extract the urban memory and generate a new urban fabric by the concept of analogy. We reconnected the green system and blue system, and designed the build up area system. We hope in the future, the site can be used by citizens as a collective urban space, and eventually turn an abandoned urban void into an area that can reactivate urban life.

Abstract
We hope in the future, the site can be used by citizens as a collective urban space, and eventually turn an abandoned urban void into an area that can reactivate urban life.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
