Chemical recycling by pyrolysis and/or gasification via fluidized bed is leading the way for what concerns the need to find new ways of management for the solid plastic waste (SPW). This work of thesis wants to show a systematic procedure aimed at describing how a gas–solid fluidized bed behaves when CFD simulations are carried out using different opensource available solvers. Two approaches have been implemented to perform the simulations, the Eulerian–Eulerian approach and the Eulerian– Lagrangian approach, and the obtained results have been compared and validated using data and methods found in literature. In addition, to conclude the work, it was investigated how to treat a scenario in the presence of a mass transport phenomenon using an Eulerian-Eulerian approach.

Abstract
Chemical recycling by pyrolysis and/or gasification via fluidized bed is leading the way for what concerns the need to find new ways of management for the solid plastic waste (SPW). This work of thesis wants to show a systematic procedure aimed at describing how a gas–solid fluidized bed behaves when CFD simulations are carried out using different opensource available solvers. Two approaches have been implemented to perform the simulations, the Eulerian–Eulerian approach and the Eulerian– Lagrangian approach, and the obtained results have been compared and validated using data and methods found in literature. In addition, to conclude the work, it was investigated how to treat a scenario in the presence of a mass transport phenomenon using an Eulerian-Eulerian approach.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
