The study of the element of the window, in its most diverse variations and types, aims to analyze the relationships that are generated between man and in which he settles: it is in fact possible to read a series of information on the building starting only from reading of its windows; from the technologies used to the link with the territory, from the intended use to the consequent articulation of the spaces. The window is therefore the fulcrum of this research, both in the elaboration of the theoretical aspects - whose guides are inspired by the studies and writings of Giancarlo De Carlo - and in the search for a design methodology. Starting from an analysis of the element, from the primordial conception of opening and from a geometric and formal point of view, the evolution of the window is traced, to study the different types of relationships between individual and society, between community and territory. De Carlo’s territory is understood as the set of components, which are neither autonomous nor divided - and cannot be - linked by relationships of interdependence, necessity and correspondence. It is open, dynamic and changeable; which contains the presence of human beings and any living species, of the countryside and the city, of the suburbs and historic centers. In this sense, I analyze the windows in De Carlo’s projects, trying to graphically capture their relationships. By first extracting the relationship between the built and the context, then focusing on how the windows open in the collective and exchange areas. What role do they play? How do they welcome, if they do, people in the community? How, on the other hand, do they isolate the individual in their own personal sphere, if they have to? And how do they connect it to what is around? The thesis is articulated on the search for answers to these questions, and on the curiosity and fascination that Giancarlo De Carlo’s making architecture immediately transmitted to me; with the fact that architecture must be so that it is lived and so that it can transform and evolve with those who live there.

Abstract
The thesis is articulated on the search for answers to these questions, and on the curiosity and fascination that Giancarlo De Carlo’s making architecture immediately transmitted to me; with the fact that architecture must be so that it is lived and so that it can transform and evolve with those who live there.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
