Self-building in Portofino. Strategical interventions based on history to revitalize Portofino Park

The Portofino Park, extended between the municipalities of Camogli, Rapallo, Santa Margherita and Portofino, was established in 1931 to protect the territory from the construction of a road that would have favored the building of an area still intact. Through the historical analysis of the infrastructuralization of the area I conducted an investigation on the phenomena that have led this place to be an excellence of the Italian territory for biodiversity and heritage conservation. The path is the only way to reach some of the locations and serves as a real alternative infrastructure to transport by sea. Studying technical solutions and paths I felt the need to promote a more conscious use of the paths of the park aimed not at an increase in use but at a greater awareness of the same. Having realized this desire through three interventions inspired by self-building tactical approaches aimed at solving problems encountered in the use of the park I propose to offer an alternative to the simplistic management of the place that, populated by picnic areas, offers visitors an experience based on the wonder exercised by the places. Drawing inspiration from international models of landscape management I propose, finally, a strategic reorganization into rings that offer the possibility to venture into the park consciously to enjoy the place and its history in a respectful and conscious way.

Il Parco di Portofino, esteso tra i comuni di Camogli, Rapallo, Santa Margherita e Portofino, è stato costituito nel 1931 per proteggere il territorio dalla costruzione di una strada che avrebbe favorito l’edificazione di un’area tutt’ora intatta. Attraverso l’analisi storica dell’infrastrutturalizzazione dell’area ho condotto un’indagine sui fenomeni che hanno portato questo luogo ad essere un’eccellenza del territorio italiano per biodiversità e conservazione del patrimonio. Il sentiero è l’unica modalità per raggiungere alcune delle località e funge da vera e propria infrastruttura alternativa al trasporto per mare. Studiando soluzioni tecniche e tracciati ho sentito l’esigenza di promuovere una fruizione dei sentieri del parco più consapevole volto non ad un’aumento della fruizione ma ad una maggior consapevolezza della stessa. Concretizzata questa volontà tramite tre interventi ispirati ad approcci tattici autocostruibili volti alla risoluzione di problemi riscontrati nella fruizione del parco mi propongo di offrire un’alternativa alla gestione semplicistica del luogo che, popolato da aree pic nic, offre al visitatore un’esperienza basata sulla meraviglia esercitata dai luoghi. Traendo ispirazione da modelli di gestione del paesaggio internazionali propongo, infine, una riorganizzazione strategica in anelli che offrano la possibilità di avventurarsi nel parco consapevolmente per godere del luogo e della sua storia in modo rispettoso e consapevole.
