Reconstruction of the Schauspielhaus in Frankfurt am Main, Germany

The Thesis Reconstruction of the Schauspielhaus in Frankfurt am Main, Germany addresses the reconstruction project of a block in the city of Frankfurt. The project investigates three main themes: the Theater, with particular attention to German architectures, the Urban Block and the Critical Reconstruction. Through the analysis of the city of Frankfurt and the block under study, the three themes were treated and developed in the designing process. The final result is intended to be a solid vision of an urban transformation in a reality strongly characterized by the history and local architecture that bears the cultural identity of Frankfurt. The key element of the project is the Schauspielhaus: the theater built in 1902 and whose original wings are still intact and preserved within the structure designed in 1961. Setting the project on the model of 1902 and on the strong historical pre-existence of the original wings, it was imagined as a complex of buildings that aims to restore the historical identity of Frankfurt and the memory of a place that for years has represented and defined the culture of an entire city.

La Tesi progettuale Reconstruction of the Schauspielhaus in Frankfurt am Main, Germany affronta il progetto di ricostruzione di un isolato nella città di Francoforte. Il progetto indaga tre principali temi: il Teatro, con particolare attenzione alle opere tedesche, l'Isolato Urbano e la Ricostruzione Critica. Tramite quindi l’analisi della città di Francoforte e dell’isolato oggetto di studio i tre temi sono stati trattati e sviluppati nel processo di progettazione. Il risultato finale di tale processo vuole porsi come una solida visione di una trasformazione urbana in una realtà fortemente caratterizzata dalle storia e dalle architetture locali portatrici dell’identità culturale di Francoforte. Elemento cardine del progetto è lo Schauspielhaus: il teatro costruito nel 1902 e le cui ali originali sono tuttora intatte e conservate all’interno della struttura progettata nel 1961. Impostando il progetto sul modello del 1902 e sulla forte preesistenza storica delle ali originali, è stato immaginato un complesso di edifici che mira a restituire alla città l’identità storica di Francoforte e la memoria di un luogo che per anni ha rappresentato e definito la cultura di una città intera.
