The city of Assisi is inextricably linked to an imagery of peace and spirituality that, stratified over the centuries, has conditioned its physical and architectural evolution. In recent times, we have seen an increasing flow of visitors who, for the most part, are unable to have a real experience within the urban fabric of the city. The religious, citizenship and tourism spaces have created an extremely polarised system where a few streets and squares hold the monopoly; adjacent to this we find a city characterised by a high historical-architectural value where on the one hand it establishes the urban fabric and on the other hand it suffers the effect of the polarised system. The presence of urban voids or unenclosed parts within the urban fabric brings to light the possibility of breaking this highly crystallised system by offering a more comprehensive experience of the city for both citizen and visitor.

La città di Assisi è indissolubilmente legata ad un immaginario di pace e spiritualità che, stratificatosi nei secoli, ha condizionato la propria evoluzione fisico-architettonica. Nell’ultimo periodo vediamo un flusso sempre maggiore di visitatori che in gran parte sono incapaci di vivere una vera e propria esperienza all’interno del tessuto urbano della città. Gli spazi religiosi, della cittadinanza e quelli del turismo, hanno dato vita ad un sistema estremamente polarizzato dove poche strade e piazze detengono il monopolio; adiacente ad esso troviamo una città caratterizzata da un alto valore storico-architettonico dove da una parte stabilisce il tessuto urbano e dall’altra subisce l’effetto del sistema polarizzato. La presenza di vuoti urbani o parti inconcluse all’interno del tessuto urbano porta alla luce la possibilità di rompere questo sistema fortemente cristallizzato offrendo un’esperienza più capillare della città sia per il cittadino sia per il visitatore.
