In recent years the fashion industry is facing a series of challenges which are contributing to make it increasingly complex. Among all, the spreading of fast fashion is making the ability to overcome trade-offs between time, quality and costs a must. As a consequence, companies need to reassess their operations and production processes in order to remain competitive on the market. Considering the great contribution given to other sectors, lean thinking may be a solution, but applications in the fashion market are still very rare. Therefore, the purpose of our research is to shed light on this subject, trying to investigate how lean management could be successfully applied in the abovementioned industry. Appling the Reconciliation Model we identified the operational levers which distinguish a fashion lean company. They have been then used to create a framework to support companies assessing their level of maturity towards lean. Through it firms can evaluate how distant they are from the ideal lean configuration as well as understand how to reconfigure their internal operations to be aligned to a continuous improvement approach. Furthermore, through a survey we analysed how lean management is diffused in Italian fashion companies, and how firms perceive the evolution of the fashion market in future years. The main finding is that lean management is more spread than expected, and that it could be the mean through which carry out the renovation of the fashion industry. In fact, the main performances identified by our sample as necessary in the future correspond to the benefits achieved by companies that already apply these methodologies.

Abstract
In fact, the main performances identified by our sample as necessary in the future correspond to the benefits achieved by companies that already apply these methodologies.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
