Many of the monuments of Caucasian Albanian period in Azerbaijan history have come to decay, due to a number of factors including cultural, historical, religious, morphological, economic and social ones, related to the valorization of architectural monuments in Azerbaijan. According to the catalogue of historical monuments, over 600 of 8000 existing monuments are located in the North-West, including 42 Christian facilities belonging to Caucasian Albanian historical period. The Seven Church Monastery Complex, is one of the oldest Christian monasteries in Azerbaijan, and is a Caucasian Albanian Apostolic architectural Complex, composed of several cult structures, located in close proximity to the village of Lekit in Gakh. According to the order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan on cultural monuments, it is an architectural monument of local importance, but the Complex has, nevertheless, come to exist in an almost ruined state. This research aims at establishing the theoretical foundations for the conservation and adaptive-reuse project, as well as synthesizing a viable and effective solution addressing the current state of the site through a series of interventions, by analyzing the complex entanglement of context characteristics that led to the present state of the monastery and examining the main issues regarding the valorization of the site. The research is conducted through an array of sources, such as statistical data gathered from the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, published written materials and graphical imagery, obtained from various online sources with the aim of raising the overall awareness of the issues regarding preservation of cultural heritage in Azerbaijan and proposing an adaptive-reuse project for the Seven Church Monastery Complex in Lekit. This research concludes that for the valorization project of the Seven Church Monastery Complex, the intervention must address the issues associated with the current condition of Caucasian Albanian cultural heritage in two scales. Smaller, targeting the Seven Church Monastery Complex in particular, and larger, harnessing the full potential of the heritage sites around the region of Gakh.
