Looking at reviews regarding the vertebral column and focusing on the cervical spine area mainly, it comes out that this region is associated with many issues or conditions. On the other hand, there are many therapies and solutions used to treat these ills, whether they belong to modern or oriental medicine. Among the many methods of treatment, cervical collars turned out to be the most interesting one as it is the only support belonging to western medicine that doesn’t require any involvement of drugs. This dissertation, indeed, aims to assess how many and which types of cervical collars are available on the market today and to identify the medical specialties they are more frequently used for. For this reason, all types of cervical collars were examined and, following an evaluation of certain characteristics, it was possible to establish which were the best performing cervical orthoses and in which area. From this analysis it emerged that the rigid cervical collar is the support that, when it is used, it brings several contraindications; consequently, the scientific literature was searched for articles relating to the state of the art that could bring to light the specific proprieties of this category of collars; the results obtained from this research have made it possible to draw a list of efficient requirements and critical points, which sometimes they turned out to be harmful for the user’s health. Thanks to this research and literature analysis a new design proposal has been created. The new rigid cervical collar, as a matter of fact, was realized with the purpose of facing all those harmful and critical features that appeared from the analysis, while maintaining the peculiarities of this type of support.

Abstract
The new rigid cervical collar, as a matter of fact, was realized with the purpose of facing all those harmful and critical features that appeared from the analysis, while maintaining the peculiarities of this type of support.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
