Das neue museum des 20 Jahrunderts

The project is located in the city of Berlin, within the cultural area of the Kulturforum, and it an expansion of the existing museum designed by Mies van der Rohe: Neue Nationalfalerie. It is located in the only empty parcel in this slice of city and has his two main facades strictly connected with two great existing buildings: the Neue Nationalgalerie, as said before, anche the Chamber Music Hall designed by Hans Scharoun. The goal of the project is the creation of the new museum of the XX century which is supposed to be the natural physical and artistic continuation of the existing museum, offering wide exhibiting spaces and a underground connection with Mies' museum. Regardless of the expansion of the existing museum, the building itself is meant to be an independent element and therefore supplied whit all the services needed to manage the cultural business, offering also new exhibition rooms that can enhance the attractive nature of this urban section. The theme of each planning choice is highlighted in the correlation with the surrounding buildings, indeed, the new element is respectful of the surroundings highs, in addition to the materials and it is connected with the core idea of the Neue Nationalgalerie; it is put as the a modern Greek temple, raised on a platform that bring a new physical and conceptual level. The new museum of the twentieth century follows this theme by developing a new Stoà that places its front, the large portico, towards the existing one, creating an evident compositional partnership and changing in its development towards Sharoun's work through fractures and new elements.

Il progetto è collocato nella città di Berlino, all’interno del polo culturale denominato Kulturforum, e si identifica come ampliamento del museo esistente realizzato da Mies Van der Rohe: la Neue Nationalgalerie. Esso si pone nell’unico lotto vuoto in questo brano di città e vede i suoi due fronti principali in stretta relazione con grandi opere esistenti: il sopracitato Museo del Novecento e la Chamber Music Hall di Hans Scharoun. L’obiettivo è la realizzazione del nuovo museo del XX secolo che si ponga come naturale continuazione fisica e artistica del museo esistente, offrendo grandi spazi espositivi e un collegamento sotterraneo diretto con lo stesso. L’edificio si propone però come elemento indipendente e quindi fornito di tutti i servizi necessari alla gestione di tale attività culturale, offrendo inoltre nuovi spazi che possano contribuire al carattere di polo attrattivo di tale zona urbana. Il filo conduttore di ogni azione progettuale si evidenzia nella stretta correlazione con gli edifici circostanti, il nuovo elemento, infatti, studia e rispetta le altezze limitrofe, ma anche i materiali e si intreccia strettamente all’idea cardine da cui ha origine la Neue Nationalgalerie; essa si pone come un tempio greco nella modernità, nella città che si sviluppa e cresce, ergendosi su un podio che lo pone ad un nuovo livello fisico e concettuale. Il nuovo museo del XX secolo segue questo tema sviluppando un nuovo Stoà che pone il proprio fronte, il grande portico, verso l’esistente, creando un sodalizio compositivo evidente e mutando nel suo sviluppo verso l’opera di Sharoun attraverso fratture e nuovi elementi.
