How from data visualization is it possible to represent the void, the mess, the lack of data or its inconsistency and thus contribute to making visible a highly ambivalent subject where many of its problems have not yet been addressed? This thesis seeks to expose through data visualization the existing gaps and inconsistencies found when comparing the records and published data of four main official State’s institutions who register the enforced disappearance in Colombia. In the exercise of reconstruct and measure the magnitude of enforced disappearance crime in Colombia during more than 50 years of an internal armed conflict, the collective Desaparición Forzada has led an important work in terms of critically analyzing and monitoring the sources available, mainly focusing on the official data published by the Colombian State’s institutions. Their investigation has driven them to a concept, acquired by a comparable case in Mexico, called diffuse record, where the multiplicity of databases, the lack of certainty and consistency through all of them, give room to affirm that the way the State has been documenting the crime it’s being an extent of the crime of enforced disappearance itself. This thesis aims to make evident and compare how enforced disappearance has been told by the official institutions, what we know so far and what is still missing in relation to the crime, so that it can be explained better to a broader audience why this is an important matter to address. This work along with other initiatives aims to support the big effort organizations of families of the disappeared are doing in demanding more clarity, coherence and justice to the Colombian State, who must need to reach a common consensus regarding the universe of victims and consolidate the records available, an essential step to follow if we really want to understand the real magnitude of the phenomenon of enforced disappearance in Colombia.

Abstract
This work along with other initiatives aims to support the big effort organizations of families of the disappeared are doing in demanding more clarity, coherence and justice to the Colombian State, who must need to reach a common consensus regarding the universe of victims and consolidate the records available, an essential step to follow if we really want to understand the real magnitude of the phenomenon of enforced disappearance in Colombia.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
