The aim of this Thesis, done in collaboration with Dolphin Fluidics (Milan), is to develop an automatic crimping prototype machine for Shape Memory Alloys (SMA) wires. This represents a crucial aspect in the business plan of the company, as it is relaying on external suppliers at the present time. The design process starts from a preliminary overview on crimping techniques, choosing mechanical crimping as the method to be implemented thanks to its economical advantages and not hazardous consequences on the SMA properties. Then, a description of the crimps used is given, followed by multiple novel design proposals inspired by on-field observations and literature research. Successively, the design of the machine is presented, alongside the control algorithms, and thus results are reported. Up to today, this kind of automatic process study was not explored yet in the Dolphin Fluidics R&D department, so the developed prototypes are to be intended as the basis for the creation of a new research department inside the company.

Abstract
Up to today, this kind of automatic process study was not explored yet in the Dolphin Fluidics R&D department, so the developed prototypes are to be intended as the basis for the creation of a new research department inside the company.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
