Hybrid student housing. La mixité come strategia per un nuovo modello dell'abitare

The following dissertation stems from an interest in the issue of integration within the context of student housing in Milan. However, it is considered necessary to immediately expand the area of investigation to better contextualize the case of the Lombard capital. This occurs mainly in two areas: from a typological perspective, by exploring the theme of student housing as part of the wider system of shared living, and from a geographical one, taking into account the entire European landscape. Therefore, the research moves from the general to the particular, following inductive reasoning that puts under investigation the analysis of reality. In the absence of a full-bodied and universally recognized bibliography, the research analyses both statistical data and measures currently in place. Through this approach, we reconstruct, as far as possible, the conditions of student housing, in terms of mixité, which today affects both Europe and Italy. The study brings to light the need to focus on the binomial society- residency relationship as interconnected elements. While in the past, society was homogeneous and stable, therefore requiring housing solutions that could be defined as standardized, today, society proves to be increasingly fluid, connected, and in motion, thus requiring significantly more advanced housing flexibility. In this optic, the research analyses temporariness, adaptability, variety, and integration, and focuses on the definition of a new model of Hybrid Student Housing rather than on classic student housing projects. This model will be able to respond both to the needs of university students and the ones of those segments of populations that share common changing needs.

La trattazione proposta nasce dalla volontà di indagare il tema dell’integrazione riferendosi al panorama dell’housing universitario milanese; per far ciò, si ritiene necessario considerare un’ampia area d’indagine che consenta di contestualizzare al meglio il caso del capoluogo lombardo. L’analisi, dunque, si sviluppa principalmente in due ambiti, quello tipologico, esplorando il tema dello student housing come parte del più ampio sistema dell’abitare condiviso, e quello geografico, prendendo in considerazione l’intero panorama europeo. La ricerca muove dunque dal generale al particolare, seguendo un ragionamento di tipo induttivo che pone sotto indagine l’analisi del reale; in mancanza di una bibliografia corposa ed universalmente riconosciuta, infatti, ad essere presi in esame sono dati statistici ed interventi attualmente esistenti. È in questo modo che si cerca di ricostruire, per quanto possibile, le condizioni dell’housing universitario, in termini di mixité, che oggi interessano sia l’Europa che l’Italia. Ciò che lo studio porta alla luce è la necessità di porre l’attenzione sul binomio società-residenzialità, intendendo le due parti come elementi strettamente interconnessi. Se dunque, in passato la società risulta omogenea e stabile, e quindi necessita di soluzioni abitative che potremmo definire più “standardizzate”, oggi, questa si dimostra essere invece sempre più fluida, connessa ed in movimento, richiedendo di conseguenza una flessibilità abitativa decisamente più avanzata. È in questo senso che si tratterà di temporaneità, adattabilità, varietà ed integrazione, e che la ricerca porrà l’attenzione non più verso le classiche realizzazioni abitative per studenti, ma piuttosto verso la definizione di un nuovo modello di Student Housing Ibrido, che sappia rispondere non solo ai bisogni degli universitari ma anche a quelli della fetta di popolazione che sempre più ne condivide le nuove e mutevoli esigenze.
