Analysis of student housing in Italy and Milan. Guidelines for the development of student accomodation in the light of the Covid-19 emergency

Involvement in tertiary education and worldwide mobility has achieved unprecedented levels in recent decades as a consequence of global expansion plans and internationalisation initiatives by governments and higher education institutions. However, the significant and continual growth in number of students and mobility has still not been equalled by an increasing number of students housing availability, and higher education institutions are not able to offer appropriate housing for their students. This thesis was created with the intention of presenting and outlining a strategy targeted at bridging gaps in student housing options in Italy and Milan in order to allow for the necessary expansion in this sector. The student housing market has a lot of promise, but it's not being used to its full potential. Following an examination of the economic and social backdrop, a research is carried out with the goal of highlighting the current disparity between supply and demand in the student housing market that the city of Milan provides. The thesis then goes on to propose strategic options targeted at closing the previously identified gap. These answers are subsequently turned into strategic objectives through the use of a House of Quality analysis.

Il coinvolgimento nell'istruzione terziaria e la mobilità mondiale hanno raggiunto livelli senza precedenti negli ultimi decenni, come conseguenza dei piani di espansione globale e delle iniziative di internazionalizzazione dei governi e delle istituzioni di istruzione superiore. Tuttavia, la significativa e continua crescita del numero di studenti e della mobilità non è stata ancora eguagliata da una crescente disponibilità di alloggi per gli studenti, e gli istituti di istruzione superiore non sono in grado di offrire alloggi adeguati ai loro studenti. Questa tesi è stata creata con l'intenzione di presentare e delineare una strategia mirata a colmare le lacune nelle opzioni di alloggi per studenti in Italia e a Milano, al fine di consentire la necessaria espansione in questo settore. Il mercato degli alloggi per studenti è molto promettente, ma non viene utilizzato al massimo del suo potenziale. Dopo un esame del contesto economico e sociale, viene condotta una ricerca con l'obiettivo di evidenziare l'attuale disparità tra domanda e offerta nel mercato degli alloggi per studenti che la città di Milano offre. La tesi passa poi a proporre opzioni strategiche mirate a colmare il gap precedentemente individuato. Queste risposte vengono successivamente trasformate in obiettivi strategici attraverso l'uso della House of Quality
