Abstract
Climate change is a fact and its environmental and meteorological consequences are well known. Nevertheless, its impact on the energy balance of buildings is still poorly assessed and even less are the measures to struggle the increase in energy consumption on the long term. The risk of obsolescence for currently nearly zero energy buildings requires project-specific contrast solutions. The application case chosen to identify resilience strategies for new buildings is the future school centre of Montalcino. The architectural, urban and landscape context and the public use in the educational field flank the energetic theme and set other objectives for the project. The multi-objective approach, through the definition of project instances for each theme, allows to find shared solutions to the three fields of investigation. In fact, an iterative and comparative process with energy and lighting simulations in dynamic regime on the IES Virtual Environment identifies a volumetric model that responds to all macro-objectives and that integrates resilience strategies in particular to prevent the risk of overheating. The balanced management of heat supplies and light sources, the increase in the dispersing surface and the exploitation of natural ventilation optimize comfort and energy consumption for air conditioning on the long term. In addition, postponing the use of some resources such as night ventilation to the future guarantees the building further resilience to climate change. The adopted solutions actively involve children who become aware of the impact of their actions on the environment. The outcome of the project is a school that, interacting with the students, raises their awareness about sustainability through concrete actions, including educating them in energy production from renewable sources. The surplus self-produced energy is fed into the municipal grid, also prompting the citizens to act in a far-sighted perspective, which is the real winning strategy in the fight against climate change.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
