Guarda quante sedie. Indagine sulla versatilità della sedia negli interni domestici

In the interior design field, the chair is usually represented in floorplans as a simple square, positioned next to a table and characterized by a single clear function. In reality, the chairs in our homes are full of values and meanings that are implicit but still universally understandable by whoever is a part of the same culture. The divide between what is designed on paper and how the domestic universe is actually experienced also goes through the many non-conventional uses we make of this versatile piece of furniture. Through this thesis I want to investigate the history of the role of the chair and how this changes according to the context.

Nel campo dell’interior design, la sedia è solitamente rappresentata in pianta come un anonimo quadrato, collocata accanto ad un tavolo e connotata da una unica chiara e semplice funzione. Nella realtà, le sedie presenti nelle nostre case sono ricoperte di valori e significati impliciti ed invisibili ma universalmente comprensibili da chiunque faccia parte di una stessa cultura. Il divario tra ciò che viene progettato su carta e come l’universo domestico viene effettivamente vissuto passa anche attraverso i molteplici usi non convenzionali che facciamo di questo versatile mobile. Con questa tesi si è voluto svolgere un lavoro di indagine sulla storia del ruolo della sedia e di come questo si modifichi relativamente al contesto.
