For several decades we have been living in what can be considered a new geological period, called Anthropocene. Million of hectares of forests are cut down every year, and this action causes an increase in the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere that was initially stored in the trees. Cities are the main causes of gas emissions that heat the atmosphere and worsen air quality, causing respiratory diseases. The ocean has the ability to store an enormous amount of heat, which results in the phenomenon of acidification and the reduction of oxygen in the water.

Abstract
For several decades we have been living in what can be considered a new geological period, called Anthropocene. The impact that man has had on the Earth over time has geographically and physically changed the Earth’s atmospheric and terrestrial composition. Man has become a real force of nature, causing irreversible consequences over the years. Global warming, a long-term warming of the conditioned system, is caused by human activity. In particular, the burning of fossil fuels increases greenhouse gas emissions that overheat the planet. Every ecosystem is suffering from the actions of men. This causes coral bleaching, which over time led to the destruction and death of coral reefs and marine ecosystems. The cryosphere, the frozen portion of the Earth’s surface, is melting due to global warming. Melting ice causes the rise of the sea level, which can flood coastal areas. It is still possible to act to change the future, but it is necessary to act as soon as possible and do it all together. The climate crisis is a reality distributed in space-time, too complex to be fully understood. To generate a change we need to become aware of its main causes and create a collective awareness around this theme. The impact of a single individual is statistically irrelevant, but a choral action aimed at reversing the current mentality is the basis for a significant transformation. Starting from the research, from understanding of the problems and solutions that derive from it, a project has been developed with the aim to illustrate a new vision, thanks to the approach of Speculative Design. Biocene is a path to a preferable future that can be reached thanks to common action and the awareness that the future of the Planet concerns the action of each one. A web app connected to an interactive and collective installation has been designed, which is composed over time and thanks to the action of people. Only collective action can offer concrete signs of progress or improvement, composing a significant change over time. The aim is to help understand the complex phenomenon and to raise awareness towards the climate crisis.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
