This research examines a significant part of the Po Valley where the river Po meets the river Oglio and forms a particular geographical mark within the territory. These territories were the starting point for the work, which tries to demonstrate how it is still possible and necessary, through knowledge and care of the places, to safeguard and enhance the landscape in its historical, geographical, and social dimension. The focus of the thesis is the city of Sabbioneta and in particular the lost Castle: a sort of architectural island, an architectural artefact surrounded by water, within an urban island, a city enclosed by walls and also surrounded by water. The understanding of this historical threshold has guided the design theme, through a solution capable, on the one hand, of restoring the unitary reading of the square and its proportions and, on the other, of bringing to light the traces of the ancient castle through discovery and memory, while at the same time integrating with the surrounding context, returning new spaces and new opportunities to the city that can be used by the community on a daily basis, useful and necessary for all those who live and work in these places every day. The project stems from the desire to respectfully integrate into the consolidated urban fabric, respecting its history and aiming to be in direct continuity with it, bringing to light something that has been lost over time and returning it to the city. The project consists of a new visitor center dedicated to the city, to the discovery of its history, and to the understanding of its material, which is configured as an ideal element for a possible starting point, opening the visit to the site, or as a point of arrival, concluding the tour, thus becoming no longer just a passive point of passage where the user simply buys a ticket but is transformed into an interactive experience in which the user is intrigued by the possibility of discovery.

Abstract
The project consists of a new visitor center dedicated to the city, to the discovery of its history, and to the understanding of its material, which is configured as an ideal element for a possible starting point, opening the visit to the site, or as a point of arrival, concluding the tour, thus becoming no longer just a passive point of passage where the user simply buys a ticket but is transformed into an interactive experience in which the user is intrigued by the possibility of discovery.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
