MiC : Moda in corte. Intervento su Cascina Monterobbio

MiC – Moda in Corte is a project that aims to protect and revaluate the lombard rural heritage which represented the most important production until the industrial revolution. Thanks to the rich farmhouses Milan had the power to boost its new economy and success. In the last centuries though, the farm industry changed a lot: it needs less people and more machineries and the old buildings aren’t suitable anymore for the new activities. This fact brought upon a crisis of the farmhouses which were slowly abandoned and are now left alone in ruin. Local people acknowledged the need to preserve and rescue this assets and memories: and as a result the Municipal Administration often issues requests in order to intervene on the farmhouses in the jurisdiction. However it’s not easy to find the right solution, since a lot of money is needed to restore this place and the new function has to be productive and respect the farmhouse at the same time. Cascina (farmhouse) Monterobbio is part of this heritage: located between the city and the Parco Agricolo Sud, it lost its fields to the highway and suburbs and today is rotting away even though it’s a very important piece of the rural architecture. It was the house of an important family, who even enriched its walls with Hayez frescoes and widened its structure in a real establishment, but now trees grow inside it and the roof and part of the building are collapsing. Therefore we had to study the construction first, to find the main problems to solve, so that we could decide on a way to restore it and consolidate it. Afterwards we settled on the best activity that could fit in Monterobbio and give it new life: it had to enforce its tradition and find a new way to enhance it. We opted for the agritextile manufacture where the products come from the field and agriculture, but they are used to make new ecological and sustainable texture. The idea is to open a reserch start up to link to the many industries and universities in Milan as to create a bigger net that would bring people and interests in Monterobbio: this farmhouse would become the union and the link between the two faces of Milan economy, between past and future.

MiC – Moda in Corte è un progetto incentrato sulla rivalutazione e rivalorizzazione del patrimonio cascinale milanese. Nell’elaborato si studia e approfondisce la storia agricola di Milano e la composizione del paesaggio oltre la città urbanizzata. Il cambiamento nel vivere l’agricoltura ha portato la pianura padana e in particolare il Parco Agricolo Sud a un profondo cambiamento nei modi di vivere la campagna e di sfruttare gli spazi: molte cascine sono state abbandonate in quanto non più funzionali o poiché private del proprio terreno. È interesse della comunità (oggetto anche di bando comunale) tutelare e preservare la memoria storica di una realtà che è sempre stata importante per la città di Milano e che ora sta cambiando volto. Cascina Monterobbio è una di queste testimonianze che stanno scomparendo e che, nonostante il pregio architettonico, è lasciata a collassare su se stessa. Per rivitalizzarla occorre individuare una nuova vocazione che permetta di riappropriarsene, ma allo stesso tempo risulta imprescindibile un lavoro di restauro e consolidamento della struttura che ne tuteli la sicurezza e la conservazione consentendone la trasformazione da lotto degradato a centro nevralgico e sociale. Si è quindi svolto un lavoro di rilievo e analisi dell’edificio finalizzato a un sanamento del bene per ripristinarne l’agibilità e il pregio. Si è quindi sviluppato un possibile intervento in equilibrio fra tradizione e innovazione, una nuova funzione in grado di rispettare e valorizzare la storia del luogo aprendosi al progresso. Moda in Corte e la produzione di agritessuti si propongono come tassello di un disegno di più ampio respiro che trova la sua ragion d’essere nella ricerca e nell’interesse nazionale. Cascina Monterobbio diventa il perfetto teatro dove il volto agricolo e il volto della moda di Milano si uniscono in una vincente sinergia. La produzione agricola tradizionale trova un nuovo impiego e una nuova vita, nel contempo la cascina può iniziare un’attività che sfrutti al meglio il poco terreno rimasto e le sue potenzialità, quali la posizione ben servita dalle infrastrutture e la vicinanza al centro di Milano.
