With the approval of the PGT Milano 2030, the city identifies the objectives to be pursued and the strategies to be adopted to expand its boundaries with a view to social, economic and environmental development. With regard to urban planning, the idea is to redevelop the urban voids that characterize the outskirts of the city, enhancing the unexpressed potential of degraded areas and highlighting the polycentric character of the metropolis. One of the many interventions concerns the north-west area of Milan that in 2015 hosted the EXPO event. Here there will be MIND - Milano Innovation District: an ecosystem of innovation in which research, socialization and culture coexist in balance. In particular, near the Italian Pavilion, future Human Technopole, the new complex of buildings of the Scientific Pole of the State University of Milan will rise up. Called Campus MIND, it will include a university library, the subject of this thesis. Abandoning the role of a simple container of books, the library is conceived as a real Learning Center: a pleasant place to stay in to cultivate passions and interests and to increase experiences, both professionally and personally, through study, comparison, socialization. Hosting different functions, the building models its spaces to meet the needs of the widest range of users, creating comfortable and safe environments. Designing a complex of this magnitude, the architectural and engineering aspects work together with a common goal: the creation of a manifesto that not only expresses the value of the academic campus, but becomes a symbol of culture for the entire MIND project. The thesis is the story of a reiterative process in which architectural, engineering, technological and energy aspects influence each other, until the achievement of a state of equilibrium of all parts. Initially defining the building typology of the library and presenting an overview of the most significant achievements around the world, the text identifies the objectives to be achieved and the strategies adopted for an effective design. Subsequently, we report the analysis and choices that led to the definition of volumes for an optimal entry of light into the building, the calculation of a structure that limits its footprint to the ground to accentuate the permeability of the library, the use of sustainable energy systems for the proper functioning of the project.

Abstract
With the approval of the PGT Milano 2030, the city identifies the objectives to be pursued and the strategies to be adopted to expand its boundaries with a view to social, economic and environmental development. With regard to urban planning, the idea is to redevelop the urban voids that characterize the outskirts of the city, enhancing the unexpressed potential of degraded areas and highlighting the polycentric character of the metropolis. One of the many interventions concerns the north-west area of Milan that in 2015 hosted the EXPO event.
