In the desire to make the urban public space accessible to every citizen, it is of primary importance to respond to different needs and possibilities, as the totality of citizens differs between men and women. Within a constantly changing landscape, the fundamental challenge is to design a city that takes into consideration new perspectives, which have been marginalized throughout history. The research work presented below aims to propose the use of a new perspective to build a project aimed at the habitability of women. The main intent is to make the problem known, to identify differences in order to find new intervention strategies that can respond to the needs that must be faced in the contemporary city. The first part of the paper aims to create a counter-narrative, which analyzes the historical dynamics that exist in gender differences that are applied to the field of traditional policies and planning on an urban and suburban scale. Fundamental was the study of the concept of "everyday life", a means of interpreting contemporary society, paying particular attention to a gender distinction. The second part of the research proposes an approach and a project to make women actively participate in the dynamics of the neighborhood and make them the authors of a public space designed for them. For this purpose, the Greco Milanese neighborhood was selected, located in the north-west area of the city of Milan. The use of a participatory process, carried out through the survey method and in which 84 women residing in the area participated, highlighted some important characteristics to be taken into consideration for planning that is attentive to the needs of the townspeople. The aim was to understand how significant places in public space can constitute a limit to the normal development of activities or, on the contrary, be a starting point for the development of a new map of the territory. On the basis of the potential that the survey has highlighted, the last part of the research work proposes a practical example of how these issues are applied in the local area by proposing redevelopment interventions of emergency centers to encourage the use of public space by women.

Abstract
On the basis of the potential that the survey has highlighted, the last part of the research work proposes a practical example of how these issues are applied in the local area by proposing redevelopment interventions of emergency centers to encourage the use of public space by women.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
